Police Searching for Man Responsible for Death of 3 Year-Old

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are searching for a 28 year-old North Lauderdale man who killed his girlfriend’s 3 year-old son.

BSO homicide detectives responded to Coral Springs Medical Center Monday afternoon after the mother of the child, Chantel Haye, 20, appeared in the emergency room with Khyese Coach’s lifeless body.

“He was supposed to be watching my son while I worked,” said Haye. “I saw my son’s face bruised up. I’m thinking my son is sleeping. The whole time my son is dead.”

Monday was Haye’s first day working at a telemarketing company in Boca Raton. Her boyfriend of about a year, Corey Gordon, 28, agreed to take care of little Khyese while she was at work. When Gordon picked up Haye from work at approximately 3:45 p.m., she noticed something was wrong with Khyese. Initially, she thought he was sleeping, but upon touching him, she realized his body was cold. Gordon began to cry and stated there was a problem with Khyese. Haye demanded that he rush her to the hospital.

Haye said the hospital told her that her child had been dead for at least three hours.

Police are searching for Corey Gordon, 28, of North Lauderdale.,

Gordon didn’t stick around long and left her at Coral Springs Medical Center around 5 p.m. and fled.

The Broward County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Khyese and ruled his death a homicide. Detectives have obtained a warrant for his arrest and a search warrant for a relative’s home he often frequented in North Lauderdale.

Haye said that Khyese was very loving, very energetic loved to play and laugh. “He had a smile that would brighten any day. He loved his cousin Jahjah and they would would hug each other each day. That was his best friend.”

“I thought he [Gordon] was a good guy, i thought he would be there for me and my son. I thought I met someone I could trust,” said Gordon. “I didn’t know he would take my son away from me. I thought he loved us.”

“He fooled us. The devil comes in all shapes and sizes.”
