An adult female has died approximately five weeks after being involved in a multi-vehicle crash in North Lauderdale. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

The incident occurred at around 6:10 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, at the intersection of Southwest 71st Avenue and Rio Pinar. A 2020 Collins TOPS bus was traveling southbound on Southwest 71st Avenue, and a silver 2004 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on the same road. The TOPS bus entered the designated left turn lane at the intersection of Rio Pinar while the Honda Accord continued northbound on Southwest 71st Avenue.

As the bus made a left turn to travel eastbound on Rio Pinar, the Honda Accord struck the passenger side of the bus in a T-bone-type crash. The impact redirected the bus into the westbound lane of Rio Pinar, where it struck a gold 2006 Honda Accord that was stopped at a traffic sign. The gold Honda then rolled backward and hit a red 2015 Honda Accord.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to the scene. The passenger of the TOPS bus sustained multiple injuries and was airlifted to Broward Health North. The driver of the gold Honda Accord was transported to another local hospital via ground. Both victims’ injuries were initially listed as not life-threatening.

On March 15, Traffic Homicide detectives were notified that the adult female passenger in the TOPS bus had died at 10:14 a.m. that morning. The victim’s identity has not been released to the public.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal crash remain under investigation.
