Boynton and Daisy {Broward County Animal Care}
Two dogs with very different stories are hoping to find loving homes through Broward County Animal Care.
Boynton, a 4-year-old neutered American Staffordshire Terrier mix, has been waiting for a family since arriving at the shelter as a stray from Pompano Beach on Dec. 1.
When he was rescued, Boynton was severely underweight, weighing just 43 pounds, with his ribs and hip bones clearly visible. Shelter staff say he was frightened during his first few days but gradually learned to trust people through patience and care.
Now weighing 60 pounds, Boynton has become a playful and affectionate dog who enjoys treats, already knows commands including “sit” and “lie down,” and appears to be housebroken. He also enjoys splashing in water and relaxing in the play yard pool.
Because of his occasional bursts of energy and excitement, staff recommends Boynton as the only pet in a home with adults or older teenage children.
Daisy, a 3-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix, arrived at the shelter after her owner died earlier this month and the owner’s family was unable to care for her.
While initially shy, shelter staff describe Daisy as sweet, gentle and intelligent. She becomes especially playful around other dogs, suggesting she may enjoy a canine companion in her new home.
Daisy knows several basic commands, including “sit,” “lie down” and “paw,” and is also housebroken. Staff say she would do well in many types of households, provided she is given time to adjust to her new surroundings.
Boynton is already neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Daisy will be spayed, vaccinated against rabies and microchipped before adoption.
Adoption fees for both dogs have been waived. Adopters are only responsible for the $25 Broward County pet registration fee.
Broward County Animal Care is located at 2400 SW 42nd St. in Fort Lauderdale and is open daily for adoptions from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. All pets adopted through the shelter are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
