Have you seen the giants at our local libraries?
Broward County is gearing up for our signature event Riptide Music Festival and to kick it off is hosting a traveling display of art that will be visiting our libraries throughout the month of October.
These inflatable sculptures are the creations of international artists from around the globe. Make sure to check www.broward.org for the location of where these giants may pop up next.
Community Events
October brings several great community events. If you are looking for a job, check out Broward County’s Jobtoberfest. This annual event will be hosted by the Broward County Human Resources Division at the main library on October 4 from 11 am to 5 pm. So, bring your resume, and find the job you have been looking for.
Taste of Tamarac will take place on October 12.. Come out to try the very best restaurants in Tamarac. Tickets are $10 at the door. At least 30 restaurants will be in attendance, and there will be plenty of fun activities for the entire family.
In addition, check out Artoberfest at Coral Springs City Hall on October 5 from 2-10 pm. Art will be displayed at this local event in celebration of Octoberfest. Live polka music and your favorite Oktoberfest beers will be available. For the kids, a carnival will be happening, and a yodeling contest. Come out and enjoy. I hope to see you at all of you at these events as we support the local community.
Hurricane Dorian
September started with the possibility of devastation to our community from Hurricane Dorian. Our community immediately went into preparation mode. I saw teenagers helping seniors as well as local veterinarians instructing people on how to protect beloved pets. I witnessed dedicated emergency operation teams, public and private sector employees, all doing what needed to be done to serve and protect.
While the hurricane did not directly hit our community, it affected our friends and neighbors in the Bahamas. Please continue to support charities assisting with the humanitarian crisis.
Annual Budget
In September, the County Commission reviewed this year’s county budget. As your county commissioner, I focused on the upgrading of our emergency services system, funding for programming at libraries and parks, supporting our cultural division and public art, transportation upgrades like the TOPS transportation program, and assisting our cities with projects in Northwest Broward.
Broward is a large county with dynamic needs and addressing those is our responsibility.
