Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine Invites Residents to Support Local Businesses, Celebrate Moms

Broward County Vice Mayor Michael Udine.

By Commissioner Michael Udine

School is in the home stretch, and we are all looking ahead to the summer season. Whether you plan to hit the road and see the country, take a jet plane to a far-off locale, or hop aboard a cruise, Broward County is ready to serve you.

Why wait until summer, though? There are many deals during the month of May if you want to kick back and relax on a staycation.  Speaking of which, National Travel and Tourism Week is May 7-13, so check out those great deals at visitlauderdale.com and enjoy!

Planning out that summer reading list? Broward County Libraries are ready to meet your needs. We have new books, old books, eBooks, and everything in between. If we don’t have it, you can request a book through an interlibrary loan. Throughout the summer, our libraries will also have story times, special sessions for learning, and activities for the whole family. Check out all the great happenings at Broward.org/library.

Supporting our local businesses should happen all year long; however, National Small Business Week, running from April 30 through May 6, is a great opportunity to do just that. Investing in our local community by supporting small businesses helps those dollars stay in our community. In addition, if you are a small business owner, please let Broward County invest in you!  Contact Broward County’s Office of Economic and Small Business Development to get certified today. Broward County has many different projects that have a local business preference. From construction to libraries, environmental protection, and everything in between, take advantage of this great opportunity to grow your business!

Our military and first responders deserve our greatest respect. In April, our community welcomed all branches of the military for the Air and Sea Show as well as Fleet Week. I personally was excited to welcome all our service members to Broward County. Additionally, I had the honor of presenting a proclamation to two of our local first responders who received the Annual Thomas W. Gallagher Jr. Memorial Public Safety Award, honoring outstanding emergency telecommunications specialists. They are the first of first responders and make sure that when seconds count, help is on the way. I was proud to recognize one of the recipients who was from District 3 in Coral Springs! We thank you for your great service to our community and nation.

The month of May marks two important holidays. First, we celebrate Mother’s Day. Take some time to celebrate Mom, share your gratitude, and make some memories that your family will never forget. Also, in May, we observe Memorial Day. While considered the unofficial start of summer, please take some time to honor those that made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms. These heroes may be gone, but they will never be forgotten.

The top priority in my office is that we stay in contact with the residents of District 3 and Broward County. We are available by phone, email, and social media. Reach me at MUdine@Broward.org or at my office at (954) 357-7003. In addition, we are available to meet by appointment at Coral Springs City Hall. On social media, you can find me at facebook.com/CommissionerMichaelUdine and @MichaelUdine on Twitter or Instagram to receive important updates and see what is happening in our community. Let’s connect!
