School Board Candidate Robert Mayersohn held a kickoff event at Buffalo’s Southwest Cafe in Coral Springs on Thursday. The event was attended by friends and supporters who are rallying around him to win in August.

Mayersohn, a parent, educational activist and business partner in a food brokerage company is making a second bid to become the District 4 School Board Member for Coral Springs, Parkland, Tamarac and parts of Margate and North Lauderdale.

As a candidate for the seat in 2010, Mayersohn didn’t make it past the crowded August primary, however, while other candidates were defeated as well, they all stopped their involvement with Broward schools. Mayersohn never let this defeat deter him from his involvement and leadership positions. He is not only a founding member of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas PTSA, he is the only District 4 Candidate to currently serve on their child’s (SAC) School Advisory Council.

“As School Advisory Council member I have recognized that teaching and learning starts at our schools. Making effective decisions to implement the schools continuous educational improvement plan is of vital importance for our children and teachers.” – Robert Mayersohn

Mayersohn serves as Vice Chair of the Broward County School District Advisory Council, Chair of Children Services Council-Special Needs Advisory Coalition TWEEN Workgroup and President of Parkland Buddy Sports.

Mayersohn has also served as Chair of the Broward County School District (ESE) Exceptional Student Education Advisory Council and various Broward County School District committees and workgroups, some of which include the Facilities Task Force, Wellness and Learning Supports Committee, Code of Student Conduct, Attendance Committee and Superintendent’s Community Budget Task Force.

“Developing effective policies is clearly where education reform starts,” says Meyersohn. “It is essential to have collaboration and communication to move forward.”

This past year Mayersohn was recognized for his volunteer work as the “2011 Volunteer of the Year” by the Broward County Commission and the Broward Board of Individuals with Disabilities for his outstanding achievements in advocacy and support for individuals with disabilities.

Mayersohn is also engaged in many other community organization and committees. He has traveled to Tallahassee as a member of the Broward Days Special Needs Advisory Team to advocate for Children’s Educational and Medical Needs. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Tamarac Kiwanis Club, Board Member of the City of Parkland Planning and Zoning Advisory Board, member of the Knights of Pythias, Kings Knights Lodge #221, Public Affairs Liaison and Team Captain of Parkland Relay for Life, Chabad of Parkland-Friendship Circle and Board Member of Mayfair of Parkland HOA.

As the only Broward County School District 4 candidate to qualify by petition, Mayorsohn believes he is the people’s candidate.

“It was the people who placed me on the August 14th ballot; it will be the people who will vote for me to serve as their next District 4 representative.”
