Working First Rescue always isn’t everything it’s “quacked” up to be. Other times the rewards are immediately gratifying. Especially if you rescue 12 baby ducklings and present them back into the care of their mother after they had fallen into a storm drain.
Two boys notified a deputy around 5:30 p.m. after they heard peeping coming from three drains that were connected by a pipe at Northwest 25 Terrace and Northwest 2 Street in unincorporated central Broward. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Captain Omar Valiente and firefighter Randy Chidester helped flush the ducklings from the pipe into a storm drain where they could be safely captured.
The two returned the ducklings to their mother, who was waiting patiently nearby. BSFR encourages residents to be careful near storm drains and call for help if an animal is stuck.
