In a first joint rescue task force between the Broward Sheriff’s Office and a city, BSO and Tamarac Fire Rescue will be conducting live action emergency drills this week.
According to City Spokesperson Elise Boston, the city of Tamarac’s Fire Rescue department will conduct a series of live action emergency drills with BSO’s Tamarac district which will improve both response time and strengthen working relationships during active shooter situations.
The exercises, held on Sept. 18 – 20, will cover best practices in deploying a Rescue Task Force, including Fire Rescue learning to don bulletproof gear and BSO learning techniques to “stop the bleed”.
The drills will take place primarily at Tamarac Fire Station 15 on Hiatus Road, with one session to be conducted at Tamarac City Hall. Revolvers will be firing blanks and victims will be made up of volunteers. Neighbors in the area have been notified of the drills.
There will be two session: morning sessions from 8 a.m. – noon and evening sessions 6 – 10 p.m. at both Tamarac Fire Station 15 – 6000 Hiatus Road and Tamarac City Hall – 7525 NW 88th Ave.
