A lighting storm made its way through South Florida Thursday morning creating power outages and even injuring a BSO deputy in Tamarac.
According to the Miami Herald, a Broward sheriff’s deputy directing traffic was shocked when lightning struck a metal power box on University Drive. He wasn’t seriously injured.
Resident Kevin Muscolino was walking his daughter to Renaissance Charter School in Tamarac when the storms began. They heard a loud crash from the electrical transformer nearby and once Muscolino got under cover he got out his camera and caught an explosion nearby at the intersection of Southgate Boulevard and University Drive.
The explosion happened a total of five times he said. “The school’s lights were out and the intersection’s lights were out.” He said that the power was out all the way down to Commercial Boulevard and remained off until after 2 p.m.
“It was a crazy afternoon. I had friends in Coral Springs near Ramblewood Drive that had no power either.”
