Residents can zoom into areas and see what types of crimes took place there for the past six months.

Now residents can see where crime is happening in their neighborhood with a new online mapping application which proactively shares information with the public.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office just launched CrimeMapping, a web-based interactive service available to the public starting today. Crimemapping provides reliable and timely crime information in the hands of users with an easy-to-use interface, icons depicting various types of crimes and search capabilities within the geographical areas served by BSO. The user can also search for crimes within a given date range, going back six months from the date of the search.
“Community involvement is invaluable in crime prevention. By making residents aware of the crimes happening in their surroundings, we’re empowering them to take an active role in helping us keep an eye on crime,” Sheriff Scott Israel said.
Specific address of the crimes are not listed for security purposes, just the general location. Also, if a minor is involved, or the investigation is on-going, that will not be listed as well.
CrimeMapping allows users to sign up for automatic crime alerts within their areas of interest. The site can also make it easier to report information on specific crimes by providing a link to the Broward Crime Stoppers website.
Also, there is a free downloadable app for iPhone users and one for Android users by the end of the year.
