Careless Criminal Drops Cellphone While Committing Crime

Almost as good as a having a fingerprint, detectives recovered a robber’s cell phone after he struggled with his victim during an armed robbery.  Detectives are releasing portraits from the criminal’s phone hoping someone can help identify him.

The victim was walking eastbound along the 2500 block of NW 8 Street in unincorporated Broward County near Ft. Lauderdale, at around 8 p.m. May 30.  The victim says the robber approached him from behind, put him in a chokehold and held, what he believed to be, a box cutter to his neck.  The suspect demanded money and then began to run away, but the victim chased after him and fought with his assailant.  The suspect cut his hands during the struggle, which made the victim back up thinking the suspect was severely injured.  The suspect managed to get away.

Left at the scene was the suspect’s cell phone.  Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are releasing some of his pictures hoping someone can help identify him.

Anyone with information should contact BSO Robbery Detective Armando Enrique at 954-321-4270 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
