Caught on Camera: Man Poses as Phone Salesperson Late at Night

A Tamarac homeowner was caught off guard late last night when a man came to her door purportedly claiming to be with a cellphone company.

Around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night, a man knocked on the door a homeowner (name withheld) who lives off of Commercial Boulevard and NW 64th Ave. He had no identification, and was wearing a shirt that said “No Perfect People Allowed.” The homeowner, who had a security system, did not open the the door. He first tells her that she would get a free phone. You can’t hear what she said on the other side, but he again tells her, “If you switch to Boost Mobile, you get a free phone. I’m the phone company.”

I contacted Boost Mobile at 5100 Commercial Blvd and asked owner Moe Hanis if they sent sales people door-to-door to sell cellphones. He was surprised to hear this, and said they didn’t. “I work by myself.” He said that their company mailed advertisements to customers and they would then come into the store. He said that salespeople did not come to the customers.

After the man left, the homeowner said, “I thought it was strange he didn’t have a car. I called a neighbor and she said she had just got a knock on her door, but by the time they answered, no one was there.”

The homeowner said she uses a Vivint security system with a night vision and bell camera.
