Why do we dream? What shapes our personalities? And why are we drawn to certain people, foods and experiences?
Those are among the questions explored in The Kabbalah of You, a new six-week course beginning Monday, Nov. 2, at Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac.
The course, developed by the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute, will examine how Kabbalah, the mystical tradition of Judaism, relates to everyday life, including relationships, emotions, dreams and personal challenges.
Rabbi Kopel Silberberg, director of Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac, will lead the classes, which are designed to make centuries-old Jewish mystical teachings accessible to participants regardless of their religious or educational backgrounds.
“People often think of Kabbalah as something mysterious or reserved for scholars,” Silberberg said. “But some of its most fascinating teachings deal with questions that we all wonder about. Why am I the way I am? What makes my soul unique? Why do I keep facing certain challenges? Kabbalah offers an entirely different perspective on these questions.”
Throughout the six lessons, participants will examine the nature of the soul, dreams, reincarnation, relationships and the spiritual significance of thoughts and words. The course will also explore how Kabbalistic teachings can offer insight into human behavior and personal growth.
“The goal isn’t just to learn interesting mystical ideas,” Silberberg said. “It’s to walk away with a deeper understanding of yourself and a new way of looking at everyday life.”
Classes will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for six consecutive Mondays, beginning Nov. 2. Participants may attend in person at Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac or online through Zoom.
Registration costs $85 per person or $129 per couple and includes a course textbook. Light refreshments will be provided during in-person sessions.
Scholarships are available, and those interested may attend the first class free before deciding whether to enroll.
No previous knowledge of Kabbalah or Jewish studies is required.
