The City of Tamarac presented Sheldon Taylor with a proclamation on Wednesday night for his brave service in World War Two.
The proclamation requested by Vice Mayor Gomez was presented by Mayor Harry Dressler who said said that while Taylor served as an infantryman in the United States Army during World War Two from 1943-1946, he came ashore in the battle at Normandy to defend our allies without thought to what he was facing.
Taylor was injured in the battle and for his meritorious courage was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star ad Infantry Badge.
Nearing the seventieth anniversary of D-Day and with great appreciation from the French government, Taylor was appointed to the rank of Knight of the Legion of Honor and awarded the Legion of Honor medal from the Consulate General of France on May 2.
Sheldon was honored for his courage and received undying gratitude from the French government who said that because of his bravery and others, France and Europe were liberated and when so many did not survive this battle.
