The race to unseat Debbie Wasserman Schultz in Congress is a fight between five Republican hopefuls, however, one of them may raise doubts as to his qualifications judging not only by his lack of integrity by putting a dog collar around the neck of Wasserman Schultz in his ads, but by the details of his violent past has been brought to light recently by a conservative reporter.

According to Javiar Manjarres, Writer and Editor of the The Shark-Tank, Congressional Candidate Osvaldo “Ozzie” deFaria, who has received the endorsement of John McCain (R-AZ) was accused of domestic violence by the boyfriend of his wife Elaine. The deFaria’s were separated, and in the process of a divorce.

Ozzie deFaria's ad showing Debbie Wasserman Schultz with a Dog Collar Around her neck has infuriated women

According to Charles Seibold’s sworn and signed affidavit, during the incident that occurred on November 20, 2005, Seibold, who was the boyfriend, stated that the respondent(deFaria) “knocked cup out of my hand and then smashed in my face while I was trying to watch his daughter play soccer.” Seibold then stated that deFaria “chased” him “100 yards across field yelling obscenities,” before he was repeatedly “smacked” in the shoulder by deFaria, before he “ripped” the sunglasses of Seibold’s face and broke them. (Affidavit)

On July 23, 2005, Siebold describes the event that occurred between Ozzie and his wife at the time, Elaine deFaria where deFaria pushed his way into the home looking for him and grabbed his wife and pushed her aside. Police were called and took photos of his wife’s arm.

On June 2005, deFaria told Siebold over the phone that he was going to kill him. deFaria told his wife as well that he was going to kill him (Siebold) and said if he ever goes around his kids he will kill him.

A temporary injunction (Restraining Order) for Protection Against Repeat Violence was filed against Ozzie deFaria, prohibiting  from going to or within 500ft of his wife Elaine’s home in Weston, Florida. deFaria was also prohibited from coming with 100 feet of the Petitioner’s (Seibold) motor vehicle.(Read the report)

On July 19, 2006, deFaria was arrested by the Broward Sheriff’s Office on three  misdemeanor counts of Violence Injunction Against Repeat, Sex, Dating Violence and Touch or Strike/Battery charges.

According to BSO arrest records, deFaria was arrested after slapping Charles Seibold in the face three times, violating the previously court ordered injunction against him.

DeFaria’s run-ins with law enforcement and pattern of violent and questionable behavior stemming from the initial domestic violence claim to the 2006 repeat Violence and Battery arrest could very turn off voters and call into question if he has the character and temperament that is expected of a member of Congress.

The 23th Congressional District includes:  Weston, Plantation, Davie, Sunrise, Dania Beach, Aventura, Wilton Manors, Tamarac, Hallandale Beach, Cooper City, Hollywood, Oakland Park, Southwest Ranches and Pembroke Pines.

The other candidates that have qualified for this race so far are Karen Harrington of Davie Florida, Joe Kaufman of Weston Florida and Juan Eliel Garcia of Sunrise.  They will run in the Republican primary with the winner heading into November to face Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Latest internal polls have Karen Harrington in the lead at 51% over Joe Kaufman who has 4%.
