Residents in the Woodlands Country Club in Tamarac are used to the occasional coyote sighting in their neighborhood.
Sunday morning marked the third time Marisol Gomez had spotted a coyote behind her home. At first he looked their way when he heard her daughter talking, then he walked the other way. “I did see him chasing a squirrel that thankfully got away,” she said.
Coyotes have not only have been spotted, they have attacked pets as well, and residents have been warned to always keep small pets on leashes as well as indoors, however, there have been occasions where pets have escaped outside only to fall victim to the coyotes.
The coyotes made their home before the residents and typically have posed no danger to humans. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, they are most active at dawn to dusk but have been seen anytime of the day. They urge residents to never feed the coyotes or leave pet food out at night.
