A driver was seriously injured when she drove into a ditch on Hiatus Road and crashed into a fire hydrant Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash happened in the 6000 block of Hiatus Road when the woman’s sedan most likely hydroplaned in standing water, causing her to lose control and drive into a ditch before crashing into the hydrant, said Tamarac Fire Rescue Emergency Management Coordinator and spokesman Van Schoen.
The woman was rushed to Broward Health North as a level 2 trauma alert patient. Photographs from the crash scene showed serious front-end damage to her car.
Schoen urged drivers to slow down on wet roads.
“Everybody wants to make it home, so just take the time, especially when it’s wet,” Schoen said.
