A woman was arrested after investigators say multiple GPS devices were found on her estranged husband’s vehicle.
According to a Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit, Beverly Chambers, 61, of Fort Lauderdale, was charged with one count of stalking involving domestic violence and two felony counts of illegally installing or using tracking devices without consent.
Records show the investigation began on May 4, when deputies responded to a residence in Tamarac after the victim discovered a magnetic GPS tracker attached to the underside of his SUV.
The man told deputies he suspected Chambers, his estranged wife, because she had previously told him she had hired an ex-FBI agent to track his movements.
Detectives later traced the device to Matrack Inc., a GPS tracking company. Investigators subpoenaed company records and said the results identified Chambers as the registered owner of the tracker. Records also allegedly included three recorded phone calls in which a woman identifying herself as Beverly Chambers requested activation of tracking devices she had purchased.
During the investigation, the victim reported finding a second tracker attached to his vehicle. Detectives said they matched that device’s identifying information to records showing it had also been purchased by Chambers.
The victim told investigators he believed the devices were being used to track his whereabouts because Chambers would unexpectedly appear at locations where she should not have known he would be and allegedly confront him.
Investigators arrested Chambers on June 4. Chambers allegedly admitted placing the trackers on the victim’s vehicle but claimed she had his permission.
Chambers was transported to the Broward Main Jail.
