Florida loses more children under age five to drowning than any other state. Every year in Florida, enough children to fill three to four preschool classrooms drown who do not live to see their fifth birthday.
May is National Water Safety month and the City of Tamarac is encouraging children and parents within the community to keep safety a priority and offering a special program at the Caporella Aquatic Center.
According to National Injury Data, in 2013, Florida had the highest unintentional drowning rate in the nation for the 1–4 year old age group with a drowning rate of 7.54 per 100,000 population. Florida had the second highest drowning rate in the nation for the 1–14 year old age group with a drowning rate of 2.54 per 100,000 population.
At this free event, participants can enhance or learn new techniques, meet new friends and develop confidence, while also learning safety skills that can save lives.

Once these safety skills have been covered, everyone is free to enjoy the pool, music and giveaways.
No preregistration needed. It all happens on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. at the Caporella Aquatic Center at 9300 NW 58th St, Tamarac, FL 33321.
