Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced in a news conference that he believes vaccine availability will open for all Floridians by April.

“We will do 55 this month I’m pretty confident unless there’s some major change in the vaccine supply,” DeSantis said.

All this comes as the state will begin vaccinating people who are 60 and older on March 15.

The governor said on March 11 process of vaccinating those between 60 and 64 may go quicker than expected because of the increase in the weekly supply the state is receiving. He said that each five-year age group adds nearly 2 million people in the population eligible for the vaccine.

COVID-19 Data

Data released by the Florida Department of Health on March 11 reports 117,779 COVID-19 tests conducted. Out of those, 7,969 came back positive. Of those, 5,144 were first-time positives.

There were 5,385 total positive COVID-19 cases in Tamarac — an increase of 38 positive cases since March 10.

Statewide, there are 1,967,865 positive cases to date. The average age to contract the virus in Broward County on March 11 was 36-years-old. For months, the average Floridian to test positive has hovered between 39 and 42-years-old.

Since the pandemic began, 82,006 Floridians have been hospitalized due to complications of COVID-19, and 32,145 have died. Of the total deaths, 2,533 were from Broward County.

Vaccinations

As of March 11, 6,025,203 or 18.91 percent of Floridians have received at least one vaccination dose. Out of these, 10.34-percent are now fully vaccinated.

Broward County has a population of 1.9 million residents as of 2019, and as of March 11, 527,606 doses of the vaccine have been administered, with 186,199 people now fully vaccinated.
