The assistant athletic director for JP Taravella High School was arrested for soliciting a minor with the purpose of engaging in a sex act.

On Tuesday, Coral Springs Police along with the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force and the Broward Sheriff’s Internet Crimes against Children Task Force arrested Dustin Roy Garvin, 32, of Coral Springs. Garvin is currently the assistant athletic director and assistant wrestling coach at the high school. The Broward County School Board Investigative Unit has been notified of the arrest.

On August 30, 2017 a special agent with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement working in an undercover capacity responded to a Craigslist ad that was soliciting for sexual favors for young males. The Craigslist user named “Dirty Dusty”, later identified as Garvin, had multiple conversations with the undercover agent, who was believed to be a 13-year-old male, requesting sexual favors.

According to the affidavit, the online undercover agent told “Dirty Dusty” that he had a young son that he would take out of school early for him. Dirty Dusty asked for stats and said he wanted to provide oral and agreed that the undercover agent could watch.  At the time, the undercover advised Dirty Dusty that the child was 13.  He said he felt iffy about it and asked if it was a sting operation.  The undercover told him it wasn’t and then he requested photos as well as Snapchat. The undercover asked to meet him for a cup of coffee and told him that he is employed at a school and he could not make an 11:00 a.m. coffee.  He said it would be better to meet in the evening and suggested 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday or Friday at a Starbucks – as long as it was not near Coral Springs.

Later, through an administrative subpoena, he was identified as Garvin through his IP address.  Garvin had also provided a photo of himself during his chat online.

On October 2, 2018, Dustin was taken into custody at J.P. Taravella High School. During an interview with Dustin Roy Garvin, he admitted to soliciting a minor with the purpose of engaging in a sex act. Garvin is being charged with one count of using a computer to solicit a sex act with a minor.
