A man charged with killing two people in a Lauderhill apartment complex allegedly told a doctor that “evil voices” instructed him to commit the murders, according to a newly released arrest report.
According to a Lauderhill Police Department arrest report, Gregory DaSilva, 26, faces two counts of first-degree premeditated murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the June 30 morning attack at the Riviera Hills apartment complex on Northwest 19th Street.
Records show an officer was patrolling the area around 11:15 a.m. when a man flagged him down and reported that someone had just tried to stab him. The man told police DaSilva came up to him asking for an ambulance while wearing a shirt soaked in what appeared to be blood.
The man told officers that DaSilva claimed he had been stabbed and began walking toward him. When the man told him to stay back, DaSilva allegedly pulled a knife from his pocket and attempted to stab him, prompting the man to run for his life and flag down police.
As officers established a perimeter, police received a 911 call from a passerby reporting a man lying on the ground with apparent stab wounds. Officers found the victim in a pool of blood, suffering from multiple wounds to his neck.
While searching the apartment complex, officers discovered a second victim inside an apartment with apparent stab wounds. Investigators reviewed surveillance video that allegedly showed DaSilva walking behind one of the victims, who used a wheelchair, before both disappeared from the camera’s view as they entered an apartment.
Minutes later, the video showed DaSilva approaching the second victim, who was sitting on an electrical box. Investigators said the footage appeared to show DaSilva making a stabbing motion before the victim ran away as DaSilva chased him.
Police later found DaSilva in the yard of a nearby home on Northwest 55th Avenue carrying a backpack. According to the report, he immediately told an officer, “It was me.”
After taking him into custody, officers said DaSilva told them the weapon was inside his backpack. Police recovered a knife and clothing that appeared to be covered in blood.
While being treated at Florida Medical Center, DaSilva allegedly told a doctor he had been hearing “evil voices to murder someone” and that the voices instructed him to use a knife.
When the doctor asked whether he could resist the voices, DaSilva reportedly replied that he could not and admitted to killing two people with a knife.
DaSilva was later booked into the Broward County Jail, where a judge ordered him held without bond.
