Learn How to Turn Your Yard into a Certified NatureScape Broward Property

Learn how your yard can become a Certified NatureScape Property

By: Sharon Aron Baron

Did you know that landscape irrigation accounts for up to 50 percent of water consumption in Broward County? Or that landscape runoff is a major source of water pollution? That is why NatureScape is an important part of Broward County’s water conservation program. Our plant choices, and the way we maintain our yard can greatly impact our future water supplies.

Who doesn’t want to protect this beautiful place we live? Broward is a very special location between the Everglades and the Atlantic – between sawgrass and seagrass.

Join the NatureScape Broward team to learn about exciting ways to create and maintain your own NatureScape yard at two free workshops scheduled for April.

Open to Tamarac and all Broward County residents, the first workshop is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, April 10, at Long Key Natural Area and Nature Center, located at 3501 S.W. 130th Avenue, in the Town of Davie. For directions call 954-357-8797.

The second workshop is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, April 24, at Fern Forest Nature Center, located at 201 S. Lyons Road in Coconut Creek. For directions call 954-357-5198.

Preregistration for each workshop is requested by phoning 954-519-0317 or by emailing dguidry@broward.org.
