A man arrested for domestic battery on Tuesday, was allegedly found to be carrying counterfeit money according to police.
Jovel Jenkins, 39, was arrested after his girlfriend, who rents a home on Avocado Drive in the Woodlands Country Club, called police saying that he hit her in the face.
Before police arrived, Jenkins left in his silver Infiniti and was later located and questioned on Rock Island Road.
The police report states that the victim, who said Jenkins has resided with her for the past 3 1/2 years, began a verbal argument concerning gum found on the rug. The argument escalated with Jenkins striking the victim in the face with his left open hand.
The officer observed a minor bruise on the victims face above her right eyebrow which the victim attributed to the strike.
While Jenkins was at the Tamarac District Office for processing, the officer who was taking inventory of his property discovered a one dollar bill, which the officer believed to be counterfeit. He stated on his report that the colors did not appear to be correct, there were no fibers visible in the bill, and the size of the bill was slightly smaller than a genuine bill. As a result, the bill was seized as evidence and reported it to the United States Secret Service.
Jenkins was charged with domestic violence and released on a $3,500 bond.
