A Lauderhill man was arrested after he brutally attacked a Tamarac PNC Bank employee because he couldn’t open the type of account he wanted.
On December 24, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the PNC Bank branch at 6899 North University Drive about an assault by a male customer of a female employee that had just taken place at their branch.
When deputies arrived, they encountered a victim with obvious injuries to her face. After interviewing witnesses, it was determined Dwayne Francis, 23, of Lauderhill, was the man behind the assault, and a BOLO – or be on the lookout — was issued to surrounding units to capture Francis in the area.
Witnesses reported Francis entered the branch and requested to open a bank account. When the employee informed him he would be unable to open a virtual wallet account because he did not qualify, he became irate. Witnesses told officers Francis stood up, walked behind the plexiglass separating himself and the victim, and began assaulting her.
The report stated Francis struck the victim multiple times with a closed fist, bloodying her nose and causing one of her eyes to become so black-and-blue that it became completely swollen shut by the time officers arrived.
Officers in the bank area were able to locate Francis near the 7400 block of NW 57th Ave and identified him based on his driver’s license — the same one he had given to the victim when he attempted to open an account.
Witnesses were also given Francis’ photo and further confirmed he was the man who had assaulted the PNC employee.
The victim received medical attention and had several orbital fractures and a blood clot behind her right eye.
Francis was transported to the Broward Sherrif’s Office Main Jail. He was released after posting a $3,500 bond.
