March Message from Tamarac Mayor Michelle J. Gomez

Mayor Michelle J. Gomez

From: Mayor Michelle J. Gomez

Tamarac is starting the month of March on a high note after our State of the City address and our recognition of Black History Month honorees at the February 12 Commission meeting, which can be viewed at www.Tamarac.org/CityCommissionMeetings, and our successful One Tamarac Multicultural Festival on February 22. While the performances, food, and exhibits were phenomenal, the best part of One Tamarac was the community spirit and unity on display. I thank everyone who helped make this year’s event a success as well as the estimated 2,500 attendees who joined us in celebrating Tamarac’s diversity.

Everyone counts in Tamarac, always, and this month we’re focused on making sure that everyone is counted in the upcoming 2020 Census. Residents will receive notices from the U.S. Census Bureau in the mail between March 12 and March 20. Participating is one of the most important things you can do to help the City get its fair share of federal funds for important projects like schools, hospitals, and roads, as well as fair representation in state and federal government.

As we celebrate the arrival of spring, we’ve got a number of fun outdoor events planned. We are partnering with Broward MPO and BSO to hold a Let’s Go Biking event featuring a bike ride through the City and a bike rodeo on Saturday, March 7. The event will be from 9 am-Noon at City Hall.

Later in the month, residents can enjoy a performance by Motown Magic at our Concert in the park at the Sports Complex on Friday, March 20.  More information on these activities is available online at www.Tamarac.org/SpecialEvents.

On Sunday, March 29, we are hosting a grand opening for Waters Edge Park. The park, which is home to the City’s first splash pad, is located at 7508 NW 61st St. The event will be from 1 – 4 pm, and everyone’s invited to join us for an afternoon of games, music, arts and crafts, fitness demonstrations and more.

In addition to our wonderful parks, the City is home to many wonderful restaurants. We’re asking everyone to mark their calendars for our First “Savor the Flavors Tamarac” event in April. This month-long initiative for food lovers will offer two guided bus tours to some of the best restaurants in Tamarac. Those who would prefer to explore our restaurants at their own pace can purchase a passport for our self-guided tasting tour. If they complete the tour and drop their passports off at City Hall by the end of April, they will have the chance to win several great prizes. We’re also cooking up a culinary competition and asking participating restaurants to offer special prix fixe menus for lunch and dinner. If you’re ready to savor the many flavors of Tamarac, visit www.savorourcity.com/tamarac for details, this website is being continuously updated.

Members of the public are always welcome to join the City Commission at our monthly meetings. In March, the City will hold a Commission workshop on March 23 and a Commission meeting on March 25. Both meetings start at 9:30 am and are broadcast live at www.Tamarac.org/CityCommissionMeetings and on Facebook Live.
