Mayor Gomez Highlights Tamarac’s Spring Successes and Upcoming Events

Tamarac Mayor Michelle J. Gomez {City of Tamarac}

Dear Neighbors

Welcome to Springtime! A wonderful time when the world is starting to bloom again, and we focus on enjoying time outside and our health!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the 2024 Furever Friends Pet Expo!  Eight pet rescues were on-site along with 40 vendors to help keep our furbabies and people stay healthy, happy and in-style!  We are so happy to share that furbabies were able to find their furever home by attending this event!  We hope you will mark your calendars for February 22, 2025, for next year’s Furever Friends Pet Expo, but happy to connect you to these amazing rescues and vendors in the interim. Just let me know!

Sometimes, we all need a little help.  The City of Tamarac’s Residential Assistance Program is funded by ARPA funds and designed to aid residents facing financial challenges with covering mortgage, rent, rent hikes and overdue HOA/condo fees.  Please visit www.Tamarac.org/Housing for additional information or contact the City’s Housing Division (954-597-3549) if you have any questions. The programs will remain open until funds are exhausted.

Excited to announce that the NW 77th Street Swale Drainage and Sidewalk Improvement Project is in its final stages!  No more orange cones to line the swale, people parking on the grass and no more localized flooding! The project included a new drainage system, new 5-foot wide concrete sidewalks, approximately 1200 linear feet of curbing and gutters, and repaving part of NW 77th. Thank you for your patience during this project!

And if you haven’t heard the news yet, I am so excited to share that Tamarac Fire Rescue is staying right where it belongs!  At last month’s Commission Workshop, I’m proud to state that the Commission unanimously agreed to stop the privatization investigation process!  Woo-hoo! Thank you for your continuous support of our Tamarac Fire Rescue and making your voices clearly heard!

Now, are you ready to mark your calendar for this month’s fun?

Ready to let the music move you?! Join us at the next Groove on the Grass on Friday, April 5, featuring Smooth STB (Santana Tribue Band).  Enjoy that sweet blend of blues, Latin music, and rock from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Tamarac Sports Complex, 9901 NW 77th St. Remember to bring your lawn chairs or blankets to this free concert. You can grab something yummy from one of the on-site food trucks.

On Wednesday, April 10, I hope you will join me as I deliver the 2024 State of the City Address at 7:00 p.m. before our Regular Commission Meeting at City Hall, 7525 NW 88 Ave. I’m very excited to share the City’s accomplishments this past year and the plans for the years ahead. If you prefer to join us virtually, you can view the meeting by visiting www.Tamarac.org/CommissionMeetings and clicking on “Live Webcasts” from the menu.

On Friday, April 12, I hope you will join us for a free viewing of “DC League of Super-Pets,” at the Tamarac Sports Complex. There’ll be fun pre-movie activities beginning at 6:30 p.m., like face painting, inflatable rides, music, and food from on-site food trucks. Don’t forget to bring your blankets and lawn chairs. The movie starts at 8:00 p.m. so please be there on time.

It’s time to now let the music move you through our next free Move with the Mayor class!  Let’s Zumba for an hour, starting at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, April 16, at Tamarac Park, 7501 N. University Dr.

As we continue to focus on all areas of our health, I hope you will attend the Health & Wealth Small Business Expo on Thursday, April 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 W Commercial Blvd. Explore more than 60 booths showcasing local businesses, enjoy a vibrant food court, and engage in impactful business-to-business and business-to-community connections at this FREE event.

Local Reminders

Happy Eid al-Fitr and Passover to all who celebrate!

Warm regards,

Michelle
