Mayor Gomez: Important Reminders for December 2022

Mayor Michelle J. Gomez of Tamarac being sworn in after being reelected to office. {City of Tamarac}

Dear Neighbors,

It’s a beautiful time of the year to take stock of the past 12 months! Challenges will always present themselves, but love, integrity, community, and mindfulness can see us through anything. I am grateful to everyone who supported my re-election, and humbled and honored to continue serving as your Mayor!

We’re getting into the spirit by kicking off the month at the Annual Holiday Lighting event on Thursday, December 1st. Join us from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. as we light up the Christmas tree, Menorah, and Kinara at the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 W. Commercial Blvd. Kids of all ages will love meeting Santa Claus and his friends and enjoy the interactive kid’s area and holiday entertainment.

Start your year off fresh by disposing of old electronics and hazardous waste at the Community Hazardous Household Waste Recycling Event on Saturday, December 3rd, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Tamarac Public Services Building, 6011 Nob Hill Rd. Arrive with the items in the trunk of your vehicle, and the staff will retrieve them for you for touchless, curbside service. A photo ID is required to confirm residency in Tamarac and surrounding cities. For a list of eligible recyclables, visit www. Tamarac.org/HazardousWaste.

The winter festivities continue at Rudolph’s Winter Wonderland event from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, at Tamarac Park, 7501 N. University Dr. There’ll be plenty of reindeer games afoot, including inflatable rides, pony rides, face painting, and carnival games. Santa Claus and Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer, will also be there to take pictures with kids, so you won’t want to miss this family-friendly event!

Then on December 10, bring the furbabies over to the Paws with Claus Holiday Paw-ty to join in on the holiday fun at Gary B Jones Park for People and Pups, 8101 Southgate Blvd. The event is from 10:00 a.m. to noon and features a holiday pet costume contest, vendors, music, and more! My trio of puppies and I look forward to this event every year!

Important Reminders
