Mayor Gomez Updates Residents on Veterans Day, Turkey Trot and More

Mayor Michelle J. Gomez

Dear Neighbors,

Welcome to November! The weather is starting to cool down, and the holiday season has begun.  We have many great things happening in Tamarac this month.

The in-person Tamarac  Turkey Trot 5K is back on track. Please join us for our 40th Annual event.  I love strolling the course with attendees of all ages as they run, jog or walk through our beautiful City. I hope you will add this celebration to your Thanksgiving traditions.  There’s still time to register at runsignup.com/tamaracturkeytrot. The race is Thursday, November 25, and begins at 7:30 a.m. at City Hall. For details, visit runsignup.com. Hope to see you there.

Have you or someone you know ever considered a career in the medical field? Be sure to stop by the Tamarac Recreation Center, Saturday, November 6, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., for BrowardUP Day, Paths to Health and Wellness. You’ll get a chance to learn about careers and credentialing programs in Nursing, the EMT field, and other high-demand professions. Many of these programs are offered FREE to Tamarac residents.

We hope you will join us in recognizing our brave servicemen and women at this year’s Veterans Day Ceremony. We’re excited to unveil a beautiful new Veterans Honor Wall glass panel, which serves as a tribute to our Tamarac Veterans. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 11t, at Veterans’ Memorial Park (7825 Southgate Boulevard). THANK YOU, VETERANS!

Are you ready for the next Move with the Mayor, especially during Men’s Health Month?  Please join me for two free hour-long socially distant group classes for all fitness levels.  We will enjoy the rescheduled Hi-Lo aerobics class at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, at the Tamarac Sports Complex (9901 NW 77th Street). We’ll meet the following week at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 13, for ZumbaGold at the beautiful Mainlands Park (4500 Monterey Drive).

Important Reminders

COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites are widely available in Broward County.

As we prepare to head into the winter season, please take note of these helpful tips.

For today, every day, and in honor of Veterans Day:

remember those who died unnecessarily;

thank all of our first responders and servicemen and women who protect us;

thank those who are preparing to be our future defenders;

thank their families as well;

thank the unsung heroes, and

remain proud to be living in our wonderful country!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families, and thank you for the privilege of being your Mayor!

Warm regards,

Michelle
