Dear Neighbors

HAPPY 2024!! Another year to make new plans, share wonderful memories, and enjoy a fantastic year together!

With that, let’s start our new year off with an unveiling of our newest public art sculpture – the Dalmatian, Speckles McFreckles, at Tamarac Fire Station 36, located at 7499 NW 72nd Street. The event is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 4. Bring your leashed fur babies!

On Saturday, January 13, the City of Tamarac, in collaboration with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Chi Psi Omega Chapter, presents the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Health Resource Fair & Family Day. Join us in celebrating the life and contributions of Civil Rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Tamarac Park (7501 N. University Drive). This free event features health education resources, food trucks, live music, inflatables, and games.

Tamarac residents can bring live Christmas trees to the Public Services Complex, 6011 Nob Hill Road, for recycling. Collection will continue from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through Friday, January 18th. Residents with curbside collection may set the trees out with their regular bulk waste. Trees must be cut into sections no longer than four feet long.

Who’s ready to Move with the Mayor in 2024?! We have added Beat Burners and Yoga classes to our 20/20/20 and Zumba class selection. We start the year off with a free hour-long 20/20/20 workout with Paula on Saturday, January 20, at 10:30 a.m., at the Tamarac Community Center (8601 W. Commercial Blvd.). For the full schedule, please review the online Mayor’s Message, the city’s website, or obtain the paper schedule from the Community Center or Recreation Center.

On January 24, CareerSource Broward and the Broward County Council of Chambers (16 Chambers) partnered for an Inaugural Signature Event ~ State of the Workforce Breakfast, Marketplace, and Job Fair. It will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Broward County Convention Center (1950 Eisenhower Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316). Mark your calendar for the Furever Friends Pet Expo, set for Saturday, March 2, at Tamarac Park (7501 N. University Dr.). There’ll be plenty of tents for guests and their pets to enjoy the activities comfortably. Stop by for pet CPR demonstrations, Broward County pet vouchers, adoption info, and pet vendors offering all sorts of goodies. Pet essentials and pet food donations are welcome.

As a reminder, food distributions continue every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., or while supplies last, at the Korean United Methodist Church (6501 West Commercial Blvd.).
