As I am writing this newsletter, it is a balmy 59 degrees! Still, by the time you read this, the weather is guaranteed to be warmer as we enter March and welcome Spring on March 19! We have fantastic events planned for you to enjoy!
The City of Tamarac is kicking off its Groove on the Grass Concert in the Park series on Friday, March 1, with “T-Wave” for a night of Caribbean music and food trucks. Bring your lawn chairs and come ready to dance from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Caporella Park (5200 Prospect Road). It will be a great night under the stars, and admission is free.
Join us for a purrrfectly good, tail-wagging time at the FurEver Friends Pet Expo on Saturday, March 2, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Tamarac Park (7501 N. University Dr.)! There will be rescue pets of all ages onsite for adoption, Pet CPR training by the American Red Cross, dog training demonstrations, a red-carpet pet parade, pet product vendors, a photographer, vouchers for free rabies vaccines, microchipping and spaying/neutering services by the Broward County Animal Care Division, food trucks, music and more! We invite all furbabies to attend with their pet parents. There will be an off-leash location for the pups to run around and enjoy the morning as well!
The Movies in the Park series also returns on Friday, March 8. Start the night off at 6:30 p.m. with fun kids’ activities of face painting, inflatables, and more with the movie, the animated Disney movie, The Little Mermaid, starting at 8:00 p.m., at Tamarac Park.
This month, the Move with the Mayor series features a free 20/20/20 class on Saturday, March 9, at the Tamarac Community Center (8601 W Commercial Blvd.) The course begins at 9:45 a.m. and features 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of strength training, and 20 minutes of stretching. It’s a great workout and a great way to start the day!
Also, on Saturday, March 9, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Tamarac District Criminal Investigations Unit will host a conversation about current scams targeting seniors in our community and how to prevent them. This free summit will take place at the Tamarac Community Center, and we hope to see you there! Knowledge is a great line of defense against crime.
As you go to bed on this very busy Saturday, if your clocks do not automatically adjust, please remember to spring your clock forward one hour so that you’re on time for activities on Sunday, March 10!
Join us at the Wednesday, March 13, Commission Meeting, where we will present the Highlights video that shows all the great things our dynamic City accomplished in 2023.
Time to have some fun at the Wet and Wild Egg Splash on Saturday, March 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Caporella Aquatic Complex (9300 NW 58th St.). On Thursday, March 21, the City Commission will be attending the Quarterly Financial Update Workshop. It is here where we will further discuss the strategic plans for the new year and how to budget accordingly.
Catch a little hop in your step at Peter Cottontail’s Springfest! The egg hunt for children 10 & under starts promptly at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the Tamarac Sports Complex (9901 NW 77th St.). This event is free for everyone.
March is also when we pay tribute to America’s history, recognizing the rich history and amazing contributions of Women. On March 27, we will recognize five outstanding Women Leaders for their impactful contributions to the community during the 9:30 a.m. City Commission Meeting.

· Food distributions continue every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., or while supplies last, at the (South Florida Global Methodist Church, 6501 W. Commercial Blvd.) (Same wonderful people and location, just a new name.)
· The next BSO Operation Medicine Cabinet/Shred-A-Thon in Tamarac will be on Saturday, May 11. The event is from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Kings Point North Lot (7629 Nob Hill Road).
