Former Mayor Harry Dressler died on August 12, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind a life devoted to service and excellence in the City of Tamarac.

Beginning in 2006, Harry served with dedication, initially as a city commissioner, vice mayor, and ultimately mayor.

“I’ve been honored to have been elected several times by the wonderful people of Tamarac, my last years as mayor. I am proud of the role I have played working with the residents, community groups, professional staff, and employees of this city government,” he told Tamarac Talk in 2018 when he chose not to run for office again.

According to the Sun Sentinel, Harry founded Dressler Strategic Advisors (DSA) in 2005, a consultancy dedicated to mediation, advisory, and expert witness services in security-related cases before becoming mayor. This was built after an illustrious 16-year career as a Senior Vice President and branch manager for major Wall Street firms.

With an M.B.A. in International Finance & Business from the University of Miami Business School, Harry’s dedication to furthering his expertise was evident. He pursued financial and public pension-related certifications, earned the status of a nationally Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF), and studied Advanced Asset Management at the renowned Aresty Institute at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. His commitment to local governments began as Chairman of the Board for the Coral Springs Economic Development Foundation.

Harry’s sentiments on public service were not just words but deeply rooted beliefs. He often remarked, “Integrity in government, especially on the local level, is essential because this is where democracy happens.”

His leadership was marked by an unwavering commitment to the city’s financial stability, ensuring essential services reached every resident.

On a more personal note, Harry’s wife, Faith Dressler, captured the depth of their loss on Facebook: “Our hearts are broken. The pride and love we have for him will sustain us through this tremendously difficult time. He was a wonderful man and my best friend.”

Services to honor the memory of Harry Dressler will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Star of David Memorial Gardens, 7701 Bailey Road, Tamarac, Florida.
