A Tamarac woman celebrated her 103rd birthday with her family after receiving a new pacemaker at Broward Health Coral Springs.
When 102-year-old Veneita Dempster began experiencing weeks of shortness of breath and a persistent cough, her family brought her to Broward Health Coral Springs for evaluation. Doctors determined that her pacemaker had reached the end of its lifespan.
According to Broward Health, pacemakers typically need to be replaced every seven to 10 years. Dempster was admitted to the hospital, where Dr. Sameer Satija, a cardiac electrophysiologist, implanted a new device to restore her heart’s rhythm.
The successful procedure allowed Dempster to celebrate her 103rd birthday surrounded by family.
A native of Jamaica, Dempster enjoys spending time with her loved ones and looks forward to creating more memories with her five children and 10 grandchildren.
