By Sharon Aron Baron

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit has released new surveillance footage in the investigation of a murder in North Lauderdale that took the life of a local man.

The fatal incident occurred just before 5 p.m. on April 27 in the vicinity of the 7400 block of Kimberly Boulevard. Officials said they received calls reporting a shooting and promptly dispatched deputies alongside North Lauderdale Fire Rescue to the location specified.

Upon arrival, first responders found 36-year-old Leayle Powell of Coral Springs with multiple gunshot wounds behind one of the buildings. Despite being rushed to Broward Health North via air by BSO Fire Rescue, Powell was tragically pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

In a bid to advance the investigation and as a result of the Powell family’s request, authorities have made public both the victim’s identity and additional footage captured around the time of the shooting.

The newly released video presents more explicit images of the subjects, showing three individuals walking towards an apartment complex and later sprinting away to a red Honda Accord after the sound of gunshots rang out.

This car noted for its stock rims, was seen fleeing the crime scene and has become a significant point of interest in the case.

n a joint effort with Broward Crime Stoppers, a reward offer of up to $5,000 for tips that lead to an arrest has been offered.

BSO Homicide Detective John Curcio is heading the inquiry and urges anyone with any knowledge concerning the murder to get in touch by calling 954-321-4212.
