The City of Tamarac will be swearing in two new city commissioners, and residents are invited to attend the ceremony.
Julie Fishman and Marlon Bolton were both elected last week, and this is the first time both will serve in office. Fishman will be representing constituents in District 3, which covers Kings Point and the Westwood communities after Diane Glasser stepped down. Fishman has been campaigning since the fall of 2015 and made it her full-time job to campaign for the seat. After qualifying last June, five more candidates stepped into the race; however, she ended up with 36 percent of the vote, with the closest candidate only earning 18 percent.
Marlon Bolton will be representing the District One seat, which was formerly occupied for eight years by Pamela Bushnell. Bolton, who entered the race last June, surprised everyone by earning over 58 percent of the vote on Election Day and owes it to walking door-to-door, shaking hands and speaking with residents. He said that without doing these three things, there was no other path to victory.
Both candidates do not own homes in Tamarac and hopefully will grow roots in the community they will soon serve.
The ceremony will be held Monday, November 21, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Tamarac City Hall. A reception will be held in the City Hall atrium following the ceremony.
