Happy Fall! The onset of autumn signals the beginning of the holidays for me. Although this year, we’ll have to celebrate differently and creatively. There are still some fun and exciting events on the horizon!

On October 2, the City will host a Drive-in Movie Night on Friday featuring “Haunted Mansion” at the Tamarac Sports Complex, located at 9901 NW 77th Street. The cost is $5.00 per vehicle. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. (movie begins at 7:00 p.m.). Please bring your own snacks and wear masks when outside of your car. Register at eventbrite.com/city-of-tamarac-drive-in-movie-night-tickets.

Trick-or-treat fans are encouraged to stop by the City’s Drive-Thru Halloween Haunt. It will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23, at the Tamarac Sports Complex.  Visitors can get a free bag of candy and check out some scary characters and spooky decorations without having to leave their vehicle. Be sure to come by!

Recently there were several Emergency Orders issued between the Governor’s Office and Broward County’s Office. Broward County just issued a new Executive Order clarifying guidelines for a continued safe and responsible reopening plan. To read the latest order, please visit broward.org/CoronaVirus/EmergencyOrders.

After careful consideration of both the short- and long-term impacts on our City, the Commission voted to keep the millage rate for Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 the same for the ninth consecutive year.

We also reduced the initial FY21 budget by approximately $12 million compared to last year. Given the impact of COVID-19, we made some staffing adjustments. We carefully evaluated capital improvement projects to fund only those that were necessary, eligible for surtax funding, or are already underway and in need of additional funds.

Programs will be re-evaluated to ensure they represent the best use of the City’s budget dollars. As always, public safety remains our top priority.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, please remember to get all your yearly check-ups done.

Happy Halloween!

Warm regards,

Michelle
