Each year, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the City of Tamarac team up to teach kids safety on the streets with the annual Bike Rodeo.
The April 10th event did just that with bicycle and helmet inspections, an obstacle course, fun races, and a free raffle.
Included at the event were Tamarac Mayor Michelle Gomez, BSO Captain Jeff Cirminiello, and Commissioner Mike Gelin brought members of the Level Up Organization, a nonprofit dedicated to introducing the health benefits of cycling to minority communities, to join the action as well.
Over 80 children participated, and four lucky kids won a new bicyle in a raffle, all thanks to the Tamarac District Command staff, Fire Rescue, and Parks and Recreation.
According to Deputy Jennifer Marion, BSO gave free bike helmets to children who did not have one — or during the fitting, they determined theirs were too small.
