In an effort to reduce injuries to pedestrians and bicyclists due to violating traffic laws, Lauderhill police are providing education as well as enforcement in highly travelled areas.
For the second year in a row, police will be conducting high visibility traffic enforcement through an initiative provided by a grant funded through the Florida Department of Transportation. The goal of the campaign is to reduce traffic crashes and fatalities involving pedestrians and bicyclists within the City.
“This year we are focusing on the 441 corridor. Our goal is education which leads to a reduction in pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle crashes,” said Major Rick Rocco.
Through May, officers will be distributing educational materials and issuing warnings or citations to those who are observed violating traffic laws and ordinances. The materials offer safety tips for bicyclists, such as riding in the same direction of traffic, obeying all traffic signs, signals and lane markings. For pedestrians, they must walk against the direction of traffic – facing oncoming traffic and must always use a crosswalk.
