A Tamarac man has been arrested and is now facing multiple felony charges after a road rage incident escalated into a shooting following a collision with another driver.
On August 3, Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a shooting near the 7600 block of Northwest 70th Avenue.
Upon arrival, records show law enforcement encountered the victim, who claimed he was driving southbound on Northwest 70th Street when he stopped at a stop sign as he approached the intersection at Northwest 77th Street.
The victim claims a vehicle behind him, later found to have been driven by Adrian Brown, 49, of Tamarac, began honking in frustration.
Arrest records show that the victim recounted to deputies that when he proceeded through the intersection, Brown attempted to pass him illegally by swerving into the oncoming lane. However, the road was too narrow for him to pass, causing him to sideswipe the victim’s car, causing it to veer off and strike another vehicle parked in a driveway at 7615 Northwest 70th Avenue.
Immediately after the collision, while still inside his vehicle, the victim alleged that Brown fired a shot through the front passenger door, aiming at his car. The bullet struck the victim’s vehicle above the left headlight but did not penetrate the engine block, becoming lodged inside the left front fender.
BSO records show the victim remained unharmed but was in fear for his life when he saw Brown holding a firearm inside his car after the shooting. Two witnesses who had been driving behind Brown corroborated the victim’s account, and video surveillance from a nearby camera captured the crash, supporting the victim’s testimony.
Brown was taken into custody following the incident and transported to the Tamarac District Office for further investigation. During the interview, Brown confessed to the shooting, claiming he acted out of fear for his life, believing that the victim had intentionally crashed into his vehicle and continued to push him forward, which he claimed placed him in danger.
A search warrant of Brown’s vehicle led to the discovery of a handgun and ten rounds in the magazine, along with a spent shell casing on the floor, consistent with what both the victim and Brown told BSO transpired.
Following the investigation and interviews of witnesses, Brown was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
