One man is dead after losing control of his car and hitting a concrete light pole in Tamarac.
Just after 8:30 a.m. on May 31, Matthew J. Scully, 31, of West Palm Beach was driving a 2003 Honda Accord southbound on the 4400 block of Rock Island Road in Tamarac.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic homicide detectives, Scully was traveling above the posted 40 mph speed limit. For an unknown reason, he lost control of his vehicle, struck the raised curb and rotated clockwise where it collided with a light pole.
The impact caused severe damage to the driver’s side as it wrapped around the pole. Scully was pronounced dead at the scene. Excessive speed, failure to maintain control of the vehicle and suspected impairment are all considered factors in this case.
Scully was originally from Kingston, Jamaica. Funeral services will be held June 16 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Bailey Memorial at 6701 West Commercial Blvd Tamarac FL.
