Horizon Bay Assisted Living Community in Tamarac will celebrate the addition of a new $2.5 million Alzheimer’s care community with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 17.
Officials there say the surge in dementia care led them to develop the new community. It will be able to accommodate 24 residents with various levels of Alzheimer’s and dementia in 18 apartments within a home-like environment and will be staffed 24-hours-a-day by associates specially trained in its memory-care program.
“We’re very excited about broadening our spectrum of care and helping meet the rising need for meaningful Alzheimer’s care through our expansion,” said Susan Smith, executive director of Horizon Bay Tamarac.
The new community will include workshops and areas of discovery that enable residents to take part in familiar routines that evoke memories, such as household activities. Art, music and movement programs will provide creative energy and pleasure. Physical fitness is a focus; exercise programming will be offered and residents will have safe, secure access to an outdoor courtyard with walking paths.
Horizon Bay Tamarac already provides 95 apartments with accommodations for 105 residents in another building on its campus.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on 4 p.m., Monday, November 17, at 7650 University Dr., Tamarac.
