Tamarac Police Chief Mark Dugay must either resign before January 8 or be terminated under Sheriff-elect Scott Israel. Also facing termination is Commander William Robshaw with the same option. Not known at this time who their replacements will be.
Tamarac’s District Seven has faced numerous morale issues with three officer arrests this year. In May, Tamarac BSO Deputy David Wimberley was convicted by a Broward jury over falsifying a police report to cover up abusive actions over an arrest he made at a 7-11. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
Another Deputy, Brian Swadkins was charged with one count of falsifying records. His case is pending. After SET Detective Mathew Eisenberg, was charged with punching a homeless man in October.
Over on the LEOAffairs.com discussion boards, Officers routinely post about problems in the Tamarac district with either Chief Dugay or Commander Robshaw. Several of our officers have written to Tamarac Talk sharing how they requested reassignments out of the city.
Allegations surfaced that it was routine for BSO to rip-off the city in the amount of officers it placed on city streets by not having the minimum in its contract. See Report on Tamarac Talk
Hopefully, with a new Chief, Tamarac will have officers that will not only want to work in District 7, but will have a Chief they will look forward in working for.
