Volunteers in Tamarac who are gathering signatures to legally recall Tamarac Commissioner Patte Atkins-Grad have offered the City of Tamarac a copy of their first and successful petition from April to donate to their Time Capsule Dedication Ceremony this Friday evening.
In a letter written to Tamarac Public Information Officer Elise Boston and the Mayor and Commissioners, the recall team offered to present the historical 208-page notarized petition at the public ceremony.
Unfortunately corruption is part of our colorful history in Tamarac, and as such, this document belongs in the time capsule as a very important part of it and should remind future generations the work that our residents went to make our city better for all of us. To leave this out would be a terrible omission.” – Tamarac Resident George Stroker
Letter to city officials:
Dear Elise,
On behalf of the Recall Committee recalling disgraced Commissioner Patte Atkins-Grad from office, who has painted our city in such an embarrassing light by accepting bribes by land developers, we have a gift that we wish to present on Friday evening.
During our Time Capsule presentation, we wish to bestow upon our city a most historical document, one that is hard to part with but should be seen by future generations of Tamaracians: A copy of our actual petition with signers!
Yes, this document can be included in the time capsule. Our first successful petition with 208 glorious pages filled with over 1,500 names of residents in Tamarac that wanted Patte Atkins-Grad out of office. This represents more than 10% of our city and deserves to be in our capsule!
Please respond at your earliest convenience. Volunteers would love to be there in their green shirts on Friday evening to personally present this to the city.

Boston returned our email and stated that the time capsule has already been sealed. Apparently, the Historical Society needed to do this Tuesday morning to allow ample time to “cure” in advance of Friday’s installation.
We are asking that they open it back up to allow for this document to be added amongst the other historical items inside.
The recall team still isn’t finished rounding up the 1,800 signatures they need to be the first city in Broward County to legally recall an elected official. With only four days left, volunteers are trying to get the signatures needed. Besides knocking on doors, they are asking residents to attend public signings at the following locations:
Tamarac Public Library

Thursday evening from 5-7 pm
Saturday morning from 10 is to 1 pm.
