City Attorney Sam Goren will join others in a worthy cause on Saturday in a rappelling event that will raise money for Gilda’s Club of South Florida.
The event called “Over the Edge for Gilda’s” has participants rappelling from the roof of the B Ocean Fort Lauderdale hotel, overlooking Fort Lauderdale Beach.
Goren, with the law firm of Goren, Cherof, Doody & Ezrol, P.A. has been the city attorney for Tamarac since 2005. While the firm itself represents over 12 cities in Broward and Palm Beach County, Goren personally serves as city attorney for Tamarac, North Lauderdale and Pembroke Pines.
Gilda’s Club of South Florida is raising money by rappelling down the side of a hotel in Fort Lauderdale this weekend.
Along with Goren, his wife Shelley, CEO of Gilda’s Club of South Florida as well as a breast cancer survivor, will also rappel.
Married for over 40 years, Shelley Goren’s last surgery was back in 2001. Goren explained that he is thankful that she is well. “Interest in the cause is more important than the rappelling,” said Goren.
“Gilda’s Club is excited to be hosting this unique event,” said Shelley Goren. “There are so many thrill-seekers out there that are going to love the opportunity to rappel down a building – just like in the movies!”
The event begins on Friday with Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca and Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler who will be rappelling at 3pm, then on Saturday, from 8 am to 4 pm where all others will go over the edge. If you’d like to watch Tamarac City Attorney Sam Goren, then be there between 9 am – 10:30 am.
Stanley C. Panther, the official mascot for the Florida Panthers, will be one of the event’s VIP rappellers. People interested in going Over The Edge and rappelling from the B Ocean Fort Lauderdale can register today at Gilda’s Club of South Florida.
There is no registration fee; however rappellers are encouraged to raise $1,000 from supporters. ??
