Through our joint effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to share updates with the residents, this is a summary of Tamarac crime events through May 8.
Fraud – All Other
A victim of Fraud – False Pretense on Rock Island Road was reported on 05/07/2023. The total estimated loss was: $43,500. The victim’s daughter wanted to report that someone tried to scam her elderly mother, who is in the early stages of dementia.
A victim of Fraud – All Other on W Commercial Blvd was reported on 05/02/2023. The total estimated loss was: $1,180. The victim wanted to report unknown suspect(s) called and requested money be sent from the business through Bitcoin.
A victim of Fraud – All Other on S Devon Drive was reported on 05/04/2023. The total estimated loss was: $1,000. The victim said she received a phone call that she “won the lotto” and was requested to send $1,000 to receive more money. The victim wrote a personal check.
A victim of Fraud – All Other on Norfolk Island Pine was reported on 05/03/2023. The total estimated loss was: $800. The victim is reporting a known female has refused to return the victim’s tax return money of $800.
Fraud – Impersonation
A victim of Fraud – Impersonation on W Commercial Blvd was reported on 05/02/2023. The total estimated loss was: $2,000.
Burglary Conveyance
A victim of Burglary Conveyance on E Sabal Palm Blvd was reported on 05/02/2023. The total estimated loss was: $850. The victim advised an unknown subject went inside the driver`s side door of her white 2022 Honda HR-V and stole the driver-side airbag, an $850 value from the vehicle.
Theft – Bicycle
A victim of Theft – Bicycle on Catalina Lane was reported on 05/07/2023. The total estimated loss was: $5,850. The bicycle attempted to be sold via the Facebook marketplace. The subject rode off on the bike during the transaction.
Theft – All Other
A victim of Theft – All Other W Commercial Blvd was reported on 05/03/2023. The total estimated loss was: $750. The victim advised his cell phone was stolen out of his hotel room.
Theft – Retail / Shoplifting
A victim of Theft – Retail / Shoplifting on W Commercial Blvd was reported on 05/04/2023. The total estimated loss was: $553. Two male offenders go inside, fill two shopping baskets full of items, and walk past all points of sale on foot.
Extortion / Blackmail
A victim of Extortion / Blackmail on NW 83rd Street was reported on 05/04/2023. The victim claims he is being blackmailed by “Ryan.” The male said, “I want you to send $10,000 through Bitcoin, or I will expose your naked photos to your wife, family, neighbors, and associates”.
Fire
A fire at 8025 S Colony Circle was reported on 05/04/2023. The vehicle’s engine began to smoke and suddenly became engulfed in flames. Tamarac Fire Rescue responded and extinguished the fire. The car was removed by West Way Towing.
A fire at 4401 Rock Island Road was reported on 05/04/2023. A 2013 white Honda Odyssey was fully engulfed in fire. The owner said he was driving, and the vehicle started smoking. Tamarac Fire Rescue responded and extinguished the fire.
Arrests
Porowski, Raisa, Nicole, 32, was arrested on a charge of Battery on a Person 65 Years Of Age Or Older at NW 52nd Street on 05/02/2023.
Gordon, Deion, Rainard, 44, was arrested on a charge of Dui Alcohol Or Drugs 2nd Offense at W Commercial Blvd on 05/03/2023.
Philius, Kerby, Pierre, 30, was arrested on a Larceny – Grand Theft 750 Less Than 5k Dollars charge at W Commercial Blvd on 05/04/2023.
Escobar, Juan, Jose, 56, was arrested on a charge of Disorderly Conduct on Commercial Blvd on 05/08/2023.
