Tamarac Crime Update: String Of Catalytic Converter and Air Bag Thefts Cost Victims Thousands

Through our joint effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to share updates with the residents, this is a summary of Tamarac crime events through April 10.

Theft – Motor Vehicle Parts

A victim of Theft – Motor Vehicle Parts on N Pine Island Road was reported on 04/07/2023. The total estimated loss was $1,500. The victim parked the vehicle overnight in the parking lot. When the victim returned in the morning, the vehicle’s catalytic converter was stolen.

A victim of Theft – Motor Vehicle Parts on NW 61 Street, theft of a Catalytic Converter was reported on 04/07/2023. The total estimated loss was $1,500. Unknown suspects stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s company vehicle, a Nissan NV200.

A victim of Theft – Motor Vehicle Parts on N Colony Circle was reported on 04/04/2023. The total estimated loss was $400. The victim reported her Gray Honda Accord’s rims and tires were removed overnight.  

A victim of Theft – Motor Vehicle Parts on Holly Court was reported on 04/07/2023. The total estimated loss was $750. According to witnesses two 2 males dressed in all black removed a catalytic convert from a white Honda Odyssey.

Theft – Bicycle

A victim of Theft – Bicycle on NW 70 Avenue, a theft of a bicycle overnight was reported on 04/04/2023. The total estimated loss was $120. 

A victim of Auto Theft on W C0mmercial Blvd was reported on 04/09/2023. The total estimated loss was $3,347. 

Information

Information on NW 50 Terrace on 04/04/2023 was reported on 04/04/2023. Possible squatters and selling possible illegal narcotics were reported.

Information on Pine Island Road was reported on 04/06/2023. The victim wanted to document a citation issued to her driver’s license that she was not involved in. The driver of the crash has the same first, middle, last name but different dates of birth and different driver license.

Robbery

A victim of Robbery By Sudden Snatching on Lime Bay Blvd was reported on 04/05/2023. The total estimated loss was $970. Victim was retrieving her mail as an unknown male approached her from behind and snatched her purse. 

Battery

A victim of Battery on W Commercial Blvd was reported on 04/06/23. Victim was grabbed by an Ex-boyfriend and then deprived her from completing her phone call with 911.

Fraud – All Other

A victim of Fraud – All Other NW 87 Avenue was reported 04/07/2023. The total estimated loss was $150,820. 

A victim of Fraud -All Other on Kumquat Drive was reported on 04/08/2023. The total estimated loss was 25,000. The victim advised he was phone scammed out of$25,000 from his business account by someone pretending to be from Wells Fargo Bank. The caller requested a report since Wells Fargo will not reimburse the caller his money. 

A victim of Fraud – Impersonation on Rock Island Road was reported on 04/06/2023. The total estimated loss was $724. The victim advised someone hacked into her Walmart account in an attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages with her personal information and debit card.

Burglary Conveyance

A victim of Burglary Conveyance on NW 85 Street was reported on 04/09/2023. The total estimated loss was $2,065. Unknown suspect(S) broke into two Honda Civics and stole the air bags. 

A victim of Burglary Conveyance on N University Drive reported 04/10/2023. The total estimated loss was $1,450. The victim’s vehicle was broken into and her purse was stolen. The purse contained multiple credit cards and electronics. Ft Lauderdale located the vehicle and took two suspects into custody.

A victim of Burglary Conveyance on Southgate Blvd. Airbag was stolen and was reported on 04/09/2023. The total estimated loss was $900. 

Auto Theft

A victim of Auto Theft on W McNab Road was reported on 04/10/2023. The victim reported his vehicle, a gold Chevy Cavalier, was stolen from his residence.

Arrests

Mojica Moedrano, Jazmin Breana, 27, was arrested on a charge of Touch Or Strike/Battery/Domestic Violence on Commercial Blvd on 04/07/23.

Watson, Shauntay, 29, was arrested on a charge of Touch Or Strike/Battery/Domestic Violence on W 46 Terrace on 04/07/2023.

Johnson, Shantoi Ashakay, 32, was arrested on a charge of Touch Or Strike/Battery/Domestic Violence on Southgate Blvd on 04/09/2023.
