In memory of a football player who tragically lost his life while swimming at the beach, the City of Tamarac is offering a special water safety expo this weekend.

Brandon Myrick, 9, was a member of the Tamarac Cougar Football team and drowned while swimming at Fort Lauderdale beach over labor day.  The City will be holding drowning prevention and educational awareness on Sunday, November 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  in his memory.

Some of the items covered with the children will be how to locate and put on a lifejacket, swimming safety with a buddy, and how to help a friend if they were to fall into the water.

Beach safety will also be discussed and children will learn if the tide is high or low depending on the type of flag found at the lifeguard stand.

The water safety instruction will be held in the heated pool at the Caporella Aquatic Center 9300 NW 58th Street Tamarac Florida. This event is for everyone, however, most of the activities are geared for children 4 and up.
