A Tamarac man was arrested on Friday morning by Broward Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children detectives on several charges, including the production of child pornography, solicitation of a minor, tampering with evidence, and multiple counts of possession of child pornography.
The suspect, Julio Sanchez, 51, of the 8200 block of N.W. 75th Ave., was arrested following a tip-off in January from an internet search provider, who reported an individual viewing child pornography.
The investigation led detectives to Sanchez, who initially denied the allegations, claiming he had lost his phone. However, a search warrant was served at his residence, where detectives found his cellphone and laptop in a false compartment in a cabinet.
On the devices, detectives discovered evidence that Sanchez posed as a young female and communicated online with several underage females in catfishing attempts.
One of the underage females provided him with numerous pornographic videos at his request. Moreover, detectives found numerous images of child pornography involving children as young as toddler age.
Following the discovery of the material, Sanchez confessed to the crimes. However, the investigation is ongoing, and detectives are concerned there may be additional victims. They urge anyone with information or who believes they may know someone who is a victim to contact Detective Christopher DePelisi at 954-888-5272.
