Dear Neighbors,
Welcome to February, the month dedicated to love, friendship, and compassion, which are traits we can demonstrate to others every day of the year. Remember, a smile can brighten up a stranger’s day, as well as yours!
February also heralds the start of Black History Month. In recognition, the City of Tamarac has planned various entertaining and educational events throughout the month.
Movie in the Park on February 5, featuring “The Black Panther” at the Tamarac Sports Complex, located at 9901 NW 77th St. Showtime is at 7:00 p.m., and pre-registration is required. For details and registration info, please visit www.Tamarac.me/Movie or call 954-597-3620.
Tamarac Parks and Recreation presents Story Walk, a celebration of Black History Month with a reading of “We All Belong” by Nathalie & Alex Goss. Scheduled for Saturday, February 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Waters Edge Park, located at 7508 NW 61st St. Masks and social distancing are required. For more information, call 954-597-3574.
Black History Month Celebration Event on Friday, February 26, at the Tamarac Sports Complex, located at 9901 NW 77th St. The event kicks off at 6:00 p.m. and features a virtual keynote presentation by Dr. Marc Lamont Hill and a mix of in-person performances and displays by Anthony Heinz May, Rebecca “Butterfly” Vaughn, and Delou Africa, Inc.
Although the pandemic is far from over, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Vaccine availability and distribution are top priorities, and I understand residents’ desire to receive the vaccine. Please know that the City of Tamarac is ready to assist in administering the vaccine as needed.
In the interim, the Florida Department of Health (DOH) in Broward County recently unveiled its new state appointment system to streamline COVID-19 vaccine appointments. Frontline healthcare workers, individuals 65 years of age and older, and those deemed highly vulnerable can register online at myvaccine.fl.gov or by calling 866-201-6313 TTY 833-476-1526 and request an appointment using the automated system.
Callers can enter their information using their telephone keypad through the automated system. When a spot becomes available, an agent will call them back to schedule the appointment. Thank you for your patience during this process. We must remain positive and continue to follow CDC guidelines whether you’ve received a vaccine or not.

February 10 – Christian Life Center 2699 W. Commercial Blvd from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
February 13 – Korean United Methodist Church of South Florida from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
February 17 – Christian Life Center from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
February 20 – Korean United Methodist Church of South Florida from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
February 22 – Community Christian Church 10001 W. Commercial Blvd from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
February 27 – Korean United Methodist Church of South Florida from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
In this month of love and compassion, please take a moment to reflect on the events that occurred three years ago on Valentine’s Day at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas.
