Thank you for your patience, following CDC guidelines, and taking COVID-19 precautions. As more residents receive vaccinations, we are working toward a safe reopening of our City facilities and resuming the activities and events we missed last year.
May Events and Programs
I am delighted to share that the City will host its annual Memorial Day ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at Veterans’ Memorial Park, 7825 Southgate Boulevard. Additional tents will allow for social distancing to help people feel safe. Attend in person, or watch it live-streamed at tamarac.org/TV or on the City’s Facebook page.
In celebration of Mother’s Day, Tamarac is hosting a “Bake It On Wheels” event from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8th at Tamarac Park, 7501 N. University Drive. It’s time to “Play Ball” on Saturday, May 15, at the Mayor’s Play Ball event at the Tamarac Sports Complex, 9901 NW 77th Street. I look forward to the “first pitch” ceremony with the coaches, players, and their families, including all the activities planned for the day. The fun kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with the help of Tamarac Parks & Recreation and is open to everyone. See you there!
May is the perfect time to tackle spring cleaning, and it gives me great pleasure to host this year’s Shred-A-Thon for TAMARAC RESIDENTS ONLY. The event is being held in partnership with Kings Point in Tamarac and Kiwanis of Tamarac. Participants are limited to shredding up to three standard office boxes worth of documents. (Medications and other items will not be accepted.) Join us from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, in the Kings Point parking lot.
Over the next six months, the City’s Economic Development Office will conduct its “Savor the Flavors Tamarac” restaurant promotional campaign to help boost local eateries. The campaign will feature cooking classes, workshops, a restaurant scavenger hunt, and much more. Stay tuned for upcoming event details. Remember to shop and eat locally!
COVID-19 Vaccination Updates
With vaccinations in full swing, residents have asked, “What happens if I lose my vaccination card?” The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) suggests you contact your vaccination provider. If you cannot reach your provider, contact the Florida Health Department Immunization Information System at 1(877) 888-7468 or Immunization@FLHealth.gov. Good news! Appointments are no longer required at Department of Health (DOH) Broward vaccination sites. If you already have a scheduled vaccination appointment at a DOH-Broward location, you can go to any site (during hours of operation) or keep your scheduled appointment time. Assistance Programs and Opportunities
Broward County is now accepting applications for COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance. To learn about eligibility requirements and to apply, please visit broward.org/RentAssistance/Pages/default.aspx.
Looking to purchase your first home? Starting on May 3rd, the City of Tamarac will begin taking applications for its 2021 First-Time Homebuyers Purchase Assistance Program. Qualifying applicants can receive assistance (maximum award of $40,000) to help pay closing costs and offset your mortgage payment. The City of Tamarac has teamed up with Broward College to offer residents free educational courses in areas like AWS cloud computing, customer service, brand development, and more! Spaces are limited. Classes begin in May. Apply now at tinyurl.com/y3g7d8yw.
A huge “Thank You” to everyone who donated items to our Feminine Hygiene Product Drive. We will continue to accept donations of individually wrapped pads, tampons, and other hygiene products until Monday, May 17. To schedule a donation drop-off at the Tamarac Community Center, please call (954) 597-3626. Donations will be distributed to girls and women in need at Kiwanis’ Christmas in July event this summer.

Construction and Development
A long-awaited item that is finally here is the demolition project on the northeast corner of Pine Island and McNab Road! The 212-unit Eden West project is expected to be completed in the latter half of 2022.
